Makeup Inventory: Intro

I have decided to do a makeup inventory twice a year: one in January and one mid way through the year around June/July/August. This will help to keep my beauty spending in check and help me see how my makeup is being collected and used up. I have already inventoried my nail polish, lotion, perfume, and skin care backups in Youtube videos and on my blog here. Next year, I’m going to do it in this style where I just do photos and break everything down by categories. In January, I will be inventorying my perfume collection including samples, body products including lotion, sprays, and body gels, nail polish, skin care backups in storage (not currently being used), hair products, and everything makeup.

I will be breaking down my makeup collection by type: lip products, blushes, highlighters, bronzers, face powders, eye shadows, and the like. Some categories are really small so I will combine them with another. This is my complete makeup collection. I don’t keep makeup in my purse. I keep makeup in a small Ipsy bag and I put that into any bag I have. It’s products that I use at my desk at work and such. I emptied that bag and included the items. Like I said, this is going to be my complete collection.

I don’t have a huge collection of makeup, but I really hope to build it up to include other items that I want. I basically only buy makeup three times a year: tax season, my birthday, and Christmas. I usually spend around $50 to $100 every time on makeup exclusively. I don’t like having a huge collection. I really feel like what I have right now is manageable and I’m looking to use them up to replace them with some new goodies.

$200 Before 2018 Update #3

I told you that I would be back soon with another update. The month of June was pretty pathetic to tell you the truth. I’m making more of an effort in July to use up more products. No promises though! I’m just making sure to use my makeup on a more consistent basis. Who really knows if I’ll finish anything though. I’m confident that I can get through two products that I have in mind by the end of July.

So, to recap, I have finished up 6 out of 20 products that totals $70.24 out of $200 that is my goal this year. Like I said before, this was a meager month, so it’s not going to change by that much. There was progress this month though, so that’s something!

IMG_2349.JPG

The picture above is the month of June at a glance. I only managed to use up four products, but at least I finished them up.

Foil Sample = $1

sample

I really enjoyed this sample and I could see buying this foundation in this shade. It’s not too yellow on me. In fact, it seems a bit more pink than other foundations that I have tried buy Maybelline. Better than the original formula for sure.

Perfume Samples = $3

IMG_2335

I liked the Replica Beach Walk. It really did smell like the beach in a bottle. Not sure that I would purchase it though. There are more perfumes that I am excited for. The other two Oscar ones were pretty forgettable. I don’t even remember the scent on these.

Lip Balm = $4.50

lip

I’m guessing that this is the fourth of the full size and the cheapest price that I could find was on Walmart.com. I enjoyed using this as a lip balm during work. I wouldn’t purchase it, but I’m happy to be using the orange one now. This one was the pink one. I got both of these from Birchbox and I’m happy that I got to try both colors.

As of the end of June, I have used up 7 out of 20 products with the total adding up to $78.74 out of $200. I am proud that we are half way through the year with almost being half way done with this challenge. I look forward to seeing how much I can use up in July! Let me know if you are doing a similar challenge.

June Sephora PLAY!

I really liked that Sephora did something different from their store brand design on the play cards. This beach design is very festive and true to the June Theme: Summer Starters. All of my products fit with the theme of an easy breezy summer. I will be using everything that I received in my box this month. The past two months, I have set one thing out of each box aside, because it wasn’t something that really fit for me.

I will tell you up front now that my box is a 5 out of 5 stars, because I will use each product. It gets 4 personal stars for me, because two products I’m just meh about. Still will use them though. This box just doesn’t excite me that much.

Benefit The Porefessional 3ml for $4.50

This is a small sample, but a little goes a long way. It is a pore filler and not meant to be used all over the face. I use this on my chin, forehead, nose, and the pores that are around my nose on my cheek area. I tend to have large pores in these areas. I like the way this makes my face look, but I am unsure that I would buy a full size. I’m still looking for that holy grail primer for my face. I feel like primers just don’t do that much for me. Maybe, I haven’t found the right one yet.

IGK Rich Kid Coconut Oil Gel 15ml for $2.70

hair

This hair product smells nice and you put it on wet hair and let it air dry. I am all about air drying my hair, so I couldn’t be happier with this sample. I am currently using a split end mender, so I’ll probably not use this sample for a bit. I will definitely use it though,  because this is the kind of product that I like for effortless hair that has texture without a blowdryer. Maybe someday I’ll have time to heat style my hair again. Once in a while would be fun. I enjoy balmy leave in hair treatments rather than cream. I feel like cream makes my hair shiny/greasy looking, but balms really absorb into my hair.

Ouai Rose Hair & Body Oil 9.2ml for $2.90

oil

This has a sweet, floral rose scent that I really enjoy. I am using this strictly as a body oil, because I am very picky about the oil that I put in my hair. I have a ton of hair products right now as well. I’m on a nobuy for hair products specifically. I’m fine with using this as a body oil for after the shower or bath. I can see this being really luxurious. Maybe, I’ll add some to the bath and soak in it! The ideas are endless, but I think I might just stick to using it as a body oil the old fashioned way. 🙂

F.A.B. Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer 0.34 for $5

face

This moisturizer is tinted and I haven’t tried it yet. I’m almost done with last month’s moisturizer, so this one will be tested soon. I’m going to see how well it performs as a primer as well. Moisturizer is not that exciting to me, but I love trying out skin care. I’m not mad at it. I like that this is a decent sized moisturizer sample. It is almost half of the size of the travel version. FAB is also supposed to be gentle on the skin and since I use a lot of acids on my skin, I really like that about the brand.

Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium 1.2 ml for $2.80

perfume

I really like this perfume. It is sweet, candy like but musky as well. It isn’t powdery at all and smells familiar to me like I have smelt this scent before. It smells like B&BW Twilight Woods!!! I thought this smelt very familiar. I will be buying this in the full size. I really like Twilight Woods for the fall and B&BW no longer makes the scent. I’m so glad that I found a dupe, even an expensive one. It’s about $100 for a full sized bottle, which is not that bad. I’ve seen worse and I’m too in love with the scent to care.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in K-Dub 3ml for $9

I didn’t think that I would like this liquid lipstick, but I actually really enjoy the color. It is long lasting and I don’t think that it is overly drying on the lips. It fades on the lips as it wears throughout the day and at the end of the day, there was still lipstick to remove. I’m adding this lipstick to my project pan, because I want to enjoy it all summer long. It is a summer color for sure. I like that it lasts all day without touch ups through eating and drinking. It is also transfer proof. I can wear lipstick and kiss my little boy, too. I will buy this lipstick in a nude shade, when I have used up some more stuff in my stash. I love the formula and the drying is something that an overnight lip treatment can fix. I notice no lasting drying effects with this lip stick.

My box totals $26.90, rounded up to $27. That is over double of my subscription box. I am very pleased with the value and the selection of products.

May Empties

I have a whole lot of empties this month that my basket was overflowing. I had to photograph everything and start this post in mid-May. That is how many empties I have this month. I actually even cut May a few days short. I’m writing this on May 28th, because the basket filled up good again. It’s close enough to the end of May and it will just give a little bit of a boost to June. Although, I don’t have anything really close to being empty yet, which is why I just decided to do my count today.

I think 51 empties is enough for one month. I’m happy ending it here early. This was such a heavy month. I look forward to seeing what I can accomplish next month. You’ll be seeing plenty of reviews for the next few months to come. I’m behind in my product reviews. I have so many prewritten on paper for my blog. I probably have 50 reviews right now, waiting to be featured. I continue to write them throughout the month as well on paper. I tend to review around 40 items a month on paper, but there is not that many days in a month. Naturally, I got behind. I hope you don’t mind seeing reviews 5 days a week and my more unique posts on the weekends/holidays.

Sephora Play May Box #264

I am happy to share my Sephora Play box with you today. I received box #264 and I really loved what is in my box this month. Like last month, there is one product that I won’t be using but will be selling. I love that there are different boxes and my best friend and I have never received the same box. It has to be personalized in some way, otherwise the odds of us always getting a different box would be slim to none.

Theme: The Rising Stars

I enjoyed the bag this month and I will be using it on beach trips. I think that the brands and items in the box fit with the theme this month. They are all great brands that have been getting a lot of attention lately. Although, they could have done without another highlight, since there were three glowy/highlighter items in the March box.

Nude Stix Magnetic Matte Lip Color in Greystone

I will be selling this color, because this color is way too dark and not a color that I would wear. It is also not a summer color. I think that Sephora should have offered a lighter, more nude color or matched the colors to what subscribers selected as their skin tone. I only tried it on for swatching purposes only. Sephora’s site doesn’t list how much product is in the full size, so I am guessing that this is a quarter of the full size for $6. I’m not excited about this one and I am setting it aside for selling purposes.

Grande Lips Hydrating Lip Plumper

This has a sweet, sugar cookie scent that I love. I will be using this after I use up my current night time treatment balm. I love the luxe packaging and the gold accents. I had a hard time sticking the big doe foot applicator back into the tube. The struggle is real people. I am happy to give this product a try. It is $6.75 approximately for a quarter of the full size. I look forward to using this when I can and see if I get any results from it.

TreStique Mini Highlight Stick

Another highlighter. I mean, it is pretty and I will use it. I just wish that they could have chosen a different product, since they have been sending so many highlighters lately. I’m guessing that this is a quarter of the full size as well, so it is around $8.50. I like cream highlighter, especially on a nude face with no other makeup. It gives a nice glow that doesn’t look greasy or too glittery. The product fell out of the tube when I first opened it. I was able to put it back in, but I almost lost this one.

Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser

cleanser

I am so excited that I got a Sunday Riley product! It is a nice size to try the product out and this makes the whole box worth it to me. It is $11 for this 1 oz size. That actually makes it worth thew box cost as well! AH! I’m so excited to try out this cleanser. I cannot believe that I have only been subscribed for three months and have already received a product that makes me absolutely happy. It took a year of being subscribed to Birchbox to get there. I love Sephora and I’m so glad that they launched this box.

Christophe Robin Cleansing Purfying Scrub For Hair

I always enjoy a good clarifying shampoo. This is that plus a scrub for the scalp. I am intrigued by this product and I am putting this in my shower immediately. This is 1.35 oz of product for $6.63. All of the products this month have been a great value. I don’t know anything about this brand, but I want to try this scrub out.

I give this box 4 stars. I took off one star for the dark colored lipstick, but I really love everything else. The value of this box was $38.88. This is almost four times the value than what I paid for it. I am excited for everything, but the lip product.

Perfume Sample

This is such a fresh, beachy scent. I really love this and I am considering making this my summer scent. You have to try this next time that you are at Sephora for sure.

$200 Before 2018 Update #1

This is my first update for my $200 Before 2018. I am trying to use up $200 worth of makeup before the new year. I also want to try to use up 20 makeup items as well. I know in my next update in June, I will have at least 3 more full size items to add in. I just started this last month, so I don’t have a ton of progress yet. I’m hoping to finish up a few more makeup and perfume samples this month to try to purge all that I have right now, which is a ton of samples. This is my progress so far and it is everything that I used up in the month of April.

Makeup Samples: 4 used up = $4

IMG_2009

I’m counting all my samples used up as $1 each, but it does not go towards my beauty total of 20 items. I didn’t love any of these samples and I would not purchase any of them full size. I love trying out new items, but none of them were a good enough color match to get me to want to buy them. I thought that they were just okay.

Perfume Samples: 3 used up = $3

IMG_2010

The only one that I am a bit interested to buy for fall or winter is the Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb perfume. I have so many other perfumes that I want to buy and even more that I want to use up. When I am in the market for a perfume for that time of year, I will keep this one in mind.

Lip Products: 2 used up = $5 + $8.40 = $13.40

IMG_2011

I never realized just how cheap Colorpop really is. I might have to pick up a few here and there now that they are being sold at Walmart, at least online. Lip products are the hardest for me to go through, because it takes such a long time to use up. I would buy another Colorpop lip product and other things from the brand once I use up more stuff that I own. I will be buying the Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner once I have used up half of my colorless lip balms. It is so expensive, but so good on the lips and for them. The little tube is almost a third of the full size and it lasted me two to three months of nightly use.

Glowy Lotions: 1 used up = $7

face

I enjoyed using this GlamGlow illuminating moisturizer, but I wouldn’t purchase it. I needed to powder down the glow on this one in order to wear it. This had a lot of product in it and I used it during the work week to give my face an easy glow. It took me most of the month to use up. Glowy moisturizers aren’t for me. I think I’d rather use highlighter or a glowy blush.

In April, I was able to use up a total of 3 products out of 20, totaling $27.40 out of $200. I still have a long way to go to reach my goals, but at least monetarily I am 10% there. I am trying to use up a ton of things on there last legs in May, so I think June’s update will be a good one. I am been ignoring my foil samples, so I am going to try to be better this week and use up a couple. I’ve been working on my project pan, so I haven’t been focused on my samples.

Walmart Beauty Box Spring 2017

This is my first season getting the Walmart Beauty Box, which is a quarterly subscription for $5 a box or $20 a year. You are only paying for shipping and nothing for the actual products inside. Let’s face it though. Companies give out samples for free, why do we pay for them? I’m glad that with Walmart I am only paying shipping and everything in this season’s box is worth the money that I paid. I didn’t get any makeup samples, which I am not mad at. I actually like getting more of the other stuff like skin care and hair care more than makeup. Please tell me that I’m not the only one?

The theme of this season’s box is Trendsetter, which looking at the items in the box, I don’t get it. Are these that popular or unique of items? I’m still happy with it and the box is really sturdy. I’m going to reuse it for something. I’m not going to throw it out. I just don’t get the theme of the box.

The paper is so pretty! I want to do something with it. I am saving that for sure. Also, today is my 25th birthday, so this is like a little birthday treat to me. 🙂

Dove Advanced Care Cool Essentials 48H Deodorant

deodorant

I have used this before and I really like it. I’m trying to use more natural deodorants, but I’m not going to waste this. I will use it, especially since my degree Woman’s spray irritates my underarms if I use it every day. I’ve been putting down my Lush powder deodorant first and then spraying the Degree on top. I like to put my natural deodorant underneath my remaining aluminium deodorants. This little guy goes for $1.02.

Palmer’s Coconut Oil Luminous Hydration Facial Oil

I have tried the original version of this dry oil and I remember loving it. It was around $20 for 1 fl oz, which is cheaper than the more luxury oils on the market. I feel like it moisturized my skin well. I’m curious to see what is the difference with the luminous version. You only need about three drops of oil to cover your whole face or at least mine. I can see this lasting a week or two. I’m going to use a baby syringe I have lying around to drop it onto my face. Approximate value is $0.33.

Palmer’s Coconut Oil Facial Moisturizer

IMG_1997

I haven’t tried their moisturizer, so this will be a nice sample to try out. I feel like you can get a few days out of this packet if you used it night and day. I think I’ll get a week of nightly use. Approximate value is $0.90.

Colgate Optic White Radiant Toothpaste

toothpaste

I am really excited to try this toothpaste. I have been seeing it all over Youtube and I heard that it’s a really great whitening toothpaste. I have a toothpaste mini that I am currently working on, but when that one is done, I will take this one out on a test drive to see if it is worth the money. I don’t like to spend a ton on toothpaste, so if I like it, I’ll wait for a coupon to go with it before I buy it. I’m sad there is no coupon and just an insert. Approximate value $1.74

Biore Baking Soda Acne Scrub

Face

I’m weary of these gimmicky products from Biore. The charcoal one wasn’t very good. I hope this one is better. I will use it in my shower once I have finished my Kate Summerville scrub. I like to use scrubs in my shower, since they can be a bit messy at the sink. I look forward to trying this one out and it is a decent size. Approximate value $1.47

John Frieda Frizz Ease Daily Nourishment Moisturizing Conditioner

conditioner

I love the John Frieda Frizz Ease line, especially the serum. Once I finish off my current conditioner, I will be using this guy up. I like usually like my shampoo and conditioner to match, but I have a couple of shampoos with no matching conditioner. Usually, I run out of the shampoo before the conditioner. LOL. I think I also accidentally bought two shampoos one time instead of a matching set. Opps! Approximate value $0.97

Schwarzkopf Gliss Ultra Moisture Shampoo and Conditioner

I enjoy a matching set, so I am glad that I have this to try out when I am out of my shampoo and conditioner and want a mini but not a foil packet. I am so lazy when it comes to foil packets. Anyways, I’ve never tried this brand, but I’m not too picky when it comes to my hair. As long as the shampoo lathers and the conditioner doesn’t weigh my hair down, I will repurchase. I don’t ask for very much. Approximate value $1.37 for both

Rimmel London Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation

sample

This is just a little foil packet, so it will go rather quickly. I’m guessing at 2 to 3 uses. Hopefully, it is a decent color match. Approximate value $0.25.

Totaling up this box, it was worth $8.05, which is $3.05 more than what I paid for it. I think usually Walmart boxes are at least $5 to $10 every season. This season seems to be on the higher side and I will use everything that was sent. That is not always the case with every box, but this one scored very well for me. I would give it 3 stars, because nothing really wowed me but I will use everything that I got.
