Makeup Inventory: Intro

I have decided to do a makeup inventory twice a year: one in January and one mid way through the year around June/July/August. This will help to keep my beauty spending in check and help me see how my makeup is being collected and used up. I have already inventoried my nail polish, lotion, perfume, and skin care backups in Youtube videos and on my blog here. Next year, I’m going to do it in this style where I just do photos and break everything down by categories. In January, I will be inventorying my perfume collection including samples, body products including lotion, sprays, and body gels, nail polish, skin care backups in storage (not currently being used), hair products, and everything makeup.

I will be breaking down my makeup collection by type: lip products, blushes, highlighters, bronzers, face powders, eye shadows, and the like. Some categories are really small so I will combine them with another. This is my complete makeup collection. I don’t keep makeup in my purse. I keep makeup in a small Ipsy bag and I put that into any bag I have. It’s products that I use at my desk at work and such. I emptied that bag and included the items. Like I said, this is going to be my complete collection.

I don’t have a huge collection of makeup, but I really hope to build it up to include other items that I want. I basically only buy makeup three times a year: tax season, my birthday, and Christmas. I usually spend around $50 to $100 every time on makeup exclusively. I don’t like having a huge collection. I really feel like what I have right now is manageable and I’m looking to use them up to replace them with some new goodies.

Pan That Pallet Update #5

It is the fifth month into my Pan That Pallet Challenge for 2017, since I started a month late. I am very proud of how much I was able to use up in eye products so far this year when I only use eye products on the weekend/days off. I’m also not always consistent with that, especially during the summer. I have an pool where I live. Sundays are usually pool days as long as the weather is nice. So, I’ll probably be outside for a few hours today. The most I can get with my son is three hours. So, I’m eye shadow free today, just a liquid lip and that’s it. When it gets cooler out aka not bathing suit weather, I’ll be getting more use out of my shadows. Here’s my progress this month:

As you can see, I hit pan on Sunrise, which I knew was going to happen last month. I want to hit pan on two more shadows to call this project a success. I want to hit pan on the peachy pink Sunlight and Totally Nude. Once I hit pan on these shades, I’m going to see if I can use up one shadow completely by the end of the year. Like I said, I’ll be happy with hitting pan on two more shades. I’m still working on the creams, so far no pan but I do have some finger dips in them. I really love the mauve blush on the bottom left hand corner. It looks super natural on me unlike the middle one which is a little too pink. The middle will be great for the winter for that fresh from outside flush. I’m really enjoying this pallet and glad I’m getting use out of the shades I love.

Next year, I’m going to work on my singles and trios. I’d much rather work from an eye shadow pallet than from singles and such. I’m thinking about buying the White Chocolate Chip pallet from Too Faced during the VIB sale in November. I  might not though. I feel like I have WAY too many eye products right now. I want to just have this pallet and mascara. Once I go through all my other eye shadows, I will buy an eye shadow pallet. It’s so hard to find a good one with lighter colors though…

Invisible Oil

For Bumble & Bumble Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Primer

I just used this as my leave-in conditioner and it was a great detangler as well. My thin hair needs a leave-in to give extra moisture to the ends and to detangle my knotty hair. I really enjoyed spraying this into my hair and the scent was amazing. I would not purchase though, because I already have my holy grail leave in treatment. This was nice to try, but I wouldn’t splurge on it. It is very hydrating without weighing my hair down and my hair was always very soft after using this. I almost never heat style my hair, so I cannot speak for how it performs as a heat protectant. Since it says primer, you might want to spray a normal heat protectant on top of this one. It may only be for the sun.

Get Reddy

For BareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipstick in Get Reddy

It is a pink magenta red color that does not look good on me, so I am glad that I used it up. It smells like a MAC lipstick, very sweet vanilla scent. It is a nice smooth pigmented lipstick, but it has a tendency to travel and move around on the lips. I enjoy a lipstick that locks into place, so I would not purchase this lipstick and I cannot really recommend it. I liked wearing this lipstick as a balm around the house and not caring about the smearing. I would never wear this color or formula out. It is too high maintenance for me.

A Sweet Pea

For Body Nature Sweet Pea Moisturizing Body Wash

cream bath

I used this as a bubble bath and it gave a good amount of lightly sweet scented bubbles. I enjoyed using this for those quick 10 minute baths that I could catch during the week in between episodes of Paw Patrol. I’m lucky I shower two nights a week, because it is not easy with an 11 month old. I do enjoy sweet pea scented bath products. I forgot how gentle they are on the nose. I would not repurchase this though, because I think B&BW still makes Sweet Pea bubble bath and I have had that before. This was given to me by D and the only thing I haven’t finished yet is the lotion, but I’ll get to it! It’s currently on my desk at work, but not getting much love during the summer.

Sparkling Grape

For Stila Lip Glaze in Sparkling Grape

I hate that I couldn’t use up every last drop and there is still gloss stuck in the tube. I felt like you had to click the pen a lot to get enough out to coat your lips. It left my lips feeling sticky instead of the glossy, slippery feeling that I like my glosses to be. I don’t like a sticky gloss. I prefer ones that are smooth. I feel like I could feel the grittiness of the glitter on my lips and it only gave my lips a hint of purple. I would no repurchase and I do not recommend unless you enjoy a sticky, gritty lip gloss. I’m glad I used my Birchbox points on this.

Wild Berry & Vanilla Sugar

For Scented Secrets Gingerbread Cookie Body Lotion

I would say 4 oz is about half of a full size of lotion. My big lotions are usually 8 to 12 oz. This is a nice, thick lotion so a little goes a long way. It lasted me about three weeks and a full size takes me 4 to 6 weeks to use up. Three weeks is not bad for a 4 oz lotion. The berry smells very sweet like a berry pie and the vanilla sugar scent smells exactly like it’s name. The sugar was more like a brown sugar scent and took me back to when I used to make my own cookies from scratch. I had to store these bottles upside down to get every last drop out, no cutting the bottle required. I have a few more of these and I am excited to use them. I think I’ll use up the rest after summer. I like to use my shimmer lotions during the summer, so I can actually show off the sheen/shimmer that it adds to the skin. Wearing it during the winter is just wasteful. I think I’ll be able to use up all three of my shimmers this year. I would repurchase these lotions, but they were a holiday set.
