August Empties

Well, better late than never, huh? I was busy over Labor Day weekend and it didn’t leave much time for blogging. I’ve been trying to get a lot of posts scheduled to go up this weekend and next week. There are so many posts that I want to write, plus a lot of products are piling up in my basket to review. I have a very busy end of year for me. There are so many appointments for Dean to go to and my dad is having foot surgery at the end of the year. I’m going to get in as much blogging as I can, because I might be off and one at the end of the year. I’m taking time off to take care of my dad and Dean, because he won’t be able to take care of Dean for a bit. This is such a busy year for me. Also, it has been the most productive year as well.

I decided to sign up for the next Insurance course to get an Associates degree in Insurance Data Analytics. I’ll be getting my books in a couple of weeks. I might be blogging less. I’m going to take the exam sometime in Jan to March, which is my exam window and I get to chose the day and time to take it. Two Associates degrees kinda equal 1 BA degree right? I didn’t get to interview for that job, strictly on the basis of no BA. Talk about discrimination in the workforce.

I basically felt degraded by the HR manager that talked to me about having no degree and once I told her that I had an Associates degree (in the job description it said you could have an Associates with 4 to 6 years of documented work HISTORY, not specific work experience), she said I needed a BA and work experience to get this job. Quote: “You don’t go from down here to up here. Do you understand?” Oh, I understood perfectly. You just didn’t want to give me a chance to prove that you don’t need a formal education to work in IT.

But, let’s get to my empties post.

Not as many empties this month, but still quite a bit. I already have quite a few for September, so I think I will have more empties for this month. I am glad to be using up more of my collection. Eventually, I would like to buy some new stuff that I have been DYING to try. I’m really trying not to be a hoarder and to use and enjoy what I have. I think I have been very successful, despite splurging for my birthday and tax money treat. I need to treat myself sometimes, right? I’ll be treating myself to clip in hair extensions soon enough. I’m embracing my darker, natural hair color. No more bleach. No more blonde. Just…..me.

Fruit & Grain

For Great Value Fruit & Grain Apple Cinnamon

food

Dean and I both love soft granola bars. I have repurchased the Market Basket brand in the berry flavor (Blueberry?) and that one is a hit as well. Dean usually eats half the bar at a time and I break it up into small, easy to eat pieces. It can be very messy, so I always feed him this in his highchair as part of his morning snack between breakfast and lunch. I am surprised that he can eat that much of the bar, but he loves to eat. It really shouldn’t surprise me, but it does. It is made with whole grains and real fruit filling, so it is a healthier snack. Half of the bar will give you 6 grams of sugar, 1g of protein, and 1.25 g of total fat. Half of a bar is 70 calories, so it is very filling to a 21.5 pound little boy, who loves to eat everything in sight.

Banana Cookies

For Gerber Graduates Banana Cookies

food

These cookies are messy, but boy does Dean love these cookies. I haven’t repurchased these. I think I’ll buy them next week as a treat next week to surprise him. I occasionally will still buy Dean toddler cookies, but he mostly eats bread and adult crackers. He doesn’t need the special snacks anymore. I’m not afraid of him choking. I love that these are made with real bananas and the cookie is on the bigger side. There is about 16 cookies per box, so enough for two weeks if you only give one a day as a treat. I’m glad that he is branching out and trying new things. He had barbecue chicken, sausage, cheesy bread and watermelon last night. He’s growing up.

Little Debbies

For Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme Pies

food

I will not lie those little Debbie commercials got me to buy this old school item. In all of these years, it hasn’t changed and to me, that’s a good thing. I love these sugared up oatmeal cookies. They have frosting in the middle of two old fashioned soft oatmeal cookies. One makes a really great snack when I am in the mood for something sweet but still mildly healthy. 12 grams of sugar isn’t insane when I’ve seen soda with double the sugar in it. I hate really sweet things and I don’t really eat ice cream or cake/pies. When I am in the mood, I like a small serving of something like a cookie or a slice of cheesecake. I have to say that I love salty things much better like pretzels and chips which are just as unhealthy as cake and ice cream. It’s all in moderation people. Don’t forget to indulge.

Lil’ Meal

For Gerber Graduates Lil’ Meals Mac & Cheese w/Chicken & Vegetables, Spaghetti Rings in Meat Sauce

Two of Dean’s favorite foods are Mac & Cheese and Spaghetti, so he ate these two 6 oz bowls in two sittings. He ate 3 oz at a time. He can really pack in the pasta. He loves anything in a sauce or cheese. I will not repurchase these, because he eats the “adult” version just as well. He doesn’t need the toddler version. I like to expand his taste buds with these Gerber meals and if he does well with them, he can “graduate” to adult food from the table. These meals are fortified and sneak in veggies, which I like. I will be repurchasing other kinds of these lil’ meals, just not these particular ones. I highly recommend these for convenience, when you don’t want to cook a separate meal for your toddler. When we have pork chops, these come in handy, because that meat is too tough for him to eat and chew.

Candy Cane Lane

For Celestial Seasons Candy Cane Lane Green Tea

tea

This has to be my favorite seasonal tea flavor. It is a sweet mint with a hint of vanilla. I don’t need any added sugar with this tea. It is sweet enough on its own. Celestial Seasons is my favorite brand of tea, because I just enjoy more of the flavors than any other brand. If you haven’t tried this, then do you live under a rock? It is seriously amazing and if you like Christmas teas, than you really need to try this. I drank this tea a lot during the end of my pregnancy. It was a serious craving of mine and holds sentimental value to me now. I have to have a box every year. Once I see it on the shelf, I know that Dean’s birthday is around the corner and Christmas! I look forward to this tea every year and I could never get sick of it.

Pasta Pick-Ups

For Gerber Graduates Pasta Pick-Ups Cheese & Spinach Ravioli

food

Dean is not ready for these yet. They went to waste for the most part. He’s not ready to eat this kind of food yet at this size. He gets bored easy with food also. I might try these again in a month or so. I feel like these are for two to three year olds. My son is just not there yet to eat these. He likes to eat the filling, but doesn’t really finish the pasta part. He will eat four whole pieces of ravioli before he gets full and starts only eating the filling. I like these packets for a quick meal, when what the family is eating is a little too advanced for him.
