20 By 2020: Project Pan

Let’s start the year off right with a project pan announcement. I have way too much stuff and I want to get my money’s worth out of as much stuff as possible this year. I’d love to use up 1K worth of product in my collection this year. I’ll be focusing on that dollar amount as my goal this year instead of a finite number of empty products. Along with my empty posts, I will be creating a spreadsheet of items that I am using up with the dollar amounts over there. This series will just focus on the project pan and the progress being made on the items that I have selected. I have chosen way more than 20 items to start out with and over the course of the year, I hope to get it down to 20. I just have so many last little bits of things to use up that I’d rather start out with a ton of stuff to move out of my collection early for a nice motivating start. Let’s get into it!

Hair Care: 5

KODAK Digital Still Camera

I have a ton of hair things open at the moment. I have two purple shampoos that I would like to use up. The Shimmer Lights, I use as a primer to strip my blonde hair of any remaining previous color. I use it on dry hair like a hair mask. Speaking of which, I will be doing my hair a different color again. I have three more semi dyes to use up that only last about a month before I can buy my demi colors again. The other purple shampoo is my “daily” shampoo to keep my hair from getting brassy again, so I don’t have to do the Shimmer Lights very often. The hair mask has like one more use left in it. The conditioner is two thirds empty and the Nexxus split end fuser has the tiniest bit left. So, we are starting out with five in this category. I’m not using any styling products at the moment, but that could change.

Body Care: 5

KODAK Digital Still Camera

Again, we are starting out with 5 items in this category as well. I have a few foot masks left in this tube and I’d like to get a new one when its done. Its a lazy girl solution to a pumice stone. I have a quarter of the body splash left that I use after a shower and I have like 3 more to get through. Don’t know why I ever bought these. I’d rather use perfume. I have a fifth of the body butter left, so only a few more uses to go. I love the apple blossom scent, but VS is not CF. I have half of my Lush shower jelly left and I just want to use it up. It’s so annoying to use. Lastly, I like to go through 1 Summer’s Eve product every year, so I’d like to see this gone. Not my favorite scent, but it is nice especially during the winter when I tend to get a bit of heat rash on my legs.

Skin Care: 10

KODAK Digital Still Camera

As you can see, we haven’t even hit the makeup yet and we are already at 20 items. I have a ton of skincare open right now, so I’d like to get through what I have before opening any new things. I have a third of my coconut rose spray and I think I’ll switch to Dean’s baby wipes that are so gentle and effective on the face for a bit. I pay $9 for 480 wipes, so I figure one pack should last me a good long time and be more cost effective in the long run versus buying the liquid and the cotton. I have a tiny bit left in the Paula’s Choice serum and then I have another serum to go through. I kinda don’t want to buy anymore until I’m 30, then I’ll invest in an anti-aging one. My Curology serum is only used when I see texture on my face or a breakout. Otherwise, my bc keeps my skin pretty clear. It just needs a boost sometimes. I have a morning serum that literally does nothing. I don’t find it particularly hydrating and I can just use a moisturizer.

I have the Curology cleanser and moisturizer. I just want to use these guys up. I would not purchase either. Overpriced for what they really are. I have a couple of more uses of my MAC cleanse off oil for when I wear a full face of makeup. I tend to wear that for work, because when I’m at home, let’s be real, I’m not wearing a full face. I have an eye cream that I hate and just want to use up. I have a tiny bit of the Lancer exfoliator left that I just need to push myself to use. Lastly, I have a facial oil that I would like to use up by the end of the year. I have my eye on the PIXI rose oil.

Makeup: 26

KODAK Digital Still Camera

So, my makeup category is really a bonus, since it consists of 26 items. I am going to try to get this done to 20 over the next month, but no promises. The 4 nail polishes, I am counting as one. I just want to use all of these colors in January and see if there are any that I want to declutter from my collection. I will rotate another 4 in every month. I added the two different nail stickers as one, I want to use these up this month as accent nails to just use them up. I do enjoy nail stickers though. The potted lip balm is for home use that I hope to use up by the end of the year and the EOS is for my desk at work. The long BareMinerals palette has a highlight, blush, and bronzer. I only have plans to use up the bronzer. It is basically untouched. I have a mascara that I would like to use up and I feel like it is near the end of its life.

I have a brightener eye shadow pencil that I want to use up, because I have plenty of pencils to get through. I have a liquid eyeliner as well, even though I suck at a wing. I have three primers pulled in currently: a dewy one, a matte one, and a pore filler. I should be able to use the matte one up by Feb no problem. I already cut into the tube. I have my lip scrub that I have a third left and I’d like to just buy a new pot. I have my bouncy blush that I just want to use up on those no makeup days. It doesn’t layer well over foundation. I have a lip gloss, a liquid lipstick, and a bullet lipstick that I’d like to use up this year. I don’t think that is too ambitious and I am sure that I will be using these up to add new ones into the project.

I wanted to enjoy my brand new highlighter, so I added it into the project. I have no plans for this highlighter, but if I hit pan on it, I will be extremely happy. I want to use up this eye primer that I think is pretty unnecessary. I usually just use my concealer. I have a perfume, With Love by Hilary Duff, that I am SO CLOSE to finishing up. I love this scent, but I will be happy to say goodbye to it. I have a mini Fix + to use up in Lavender that I recently purchased that is good for after powdering and before makeup. I have my big jar of finishing powder that I would like to use up this year. I am keeping the jar though and just filling it with a different powder. It’s too pretty to throw out.

I have a cream eye shadow in a very nude shade that I can wear for work and use it up quickly that way. It has a tiny bit of shimmer. I have my Kat Von D concealer that I want to use up, because I no longer support her and her anti-vax ways. I have my Hourglass and Anastasia stick foundations to use up. Last but not least, I have a little liquid highlighter that I like to mix into my moisturizer for a bit of a glow.

So, I have a 46 item project pan currently. I’d like to get down this project to 36 by Feb (before adding items in if necessary). I am a bit ambitious in this project this year, but then again, I always am. Really isn’t much of a surprise to be honest. If you are doing a similar project, please leave a link to your blog down below so I can check it out. You think I can do it? lol. I think I will use up 20 in 2020. I’m more worried about the 1K net worth.

Selena

Product Inventory

I am back kinda. Not sure how often I will be posting on here, but I hope everyone had a Happy Holiday whatever and however you choose to celebrate the end of the year. Yesterday, I decided to tear up my room and make an inventory spreadsheet of all of my beauty related items. What I found was very shocking to me and some things weren’t all that shocking at all. I decided to make a product inventory spreadsheet to catalog everything that I own, so I know what I own at the tips of my fingers. This way, when I use something up, I can update my spreadsheet and delete a number and can better tailor what I own. On the other end, when I buy something or receive something, I can add that onto the spreadsheet as well. I will also be creating a spreadsheet with what I’m buying (including money spent) and what I’m using up (including money “utilized”) this year.

One thing I discovered is that I have way too many nail polishes. 45 to be exact. So, this year with my project pan. I will be working on trying out every nail polish and seeing if it is a formula/color that I want to keep in my collection. If I’m not happy with it, I will declutter it. I cannot possibly use up 45 polishes anytime soon and I rather work on the colors/formulas that I like to pan than to just pan for the sake of panning. I also have way too many samples. I will be working on using up my samples and making it a conscious effort this year.

I thought it was also surprising that I have 12 blushes and 10 highlighters. I will be working on these during my project pan this year on using up/hitting pan where appropriate. I feel like highlighters are easier for me to use up, because I love them. I use it everyday even on no makeup days. It is the one makeup item that makes me truly happy (besides lippies). Speaking of lip products, I have 37 of them. I know, I know. It sounds bad, but I do go through lip products. I can for sure get through 10 next year. I’m hoping to get through 16 which would be half of what I own. As long as I am consistent, I believe that this will be possible. And you know, when I move, I won’t have someone telling me that I can’t wear something.

I also have 16 sheet masks. I want to get through at least 1 a month, because I do love sheet masks. You can never have too many, right? Through this inventory, I counted 13 different perfumes. Ideally, I would like to have 4, one for every season. I will be working on the bottles that are almost used up and mini sizes as well. I am pretty sure that there is only one bottle in my collection that is practically full. It is the oldest in my collection and filled with so many good memories. It’s hard to use it up, because it brings me back. It’s a bit bittersweet with the memories now. The perfume still smells just as beautiful though, probably due to being in a blacked out bottle.

I will be making a separate post about 20 in 2020, which really turned into a rolling project pan for the year. I have a lot more than 20 items, but I plan on cutting the number down to 20 as items start to be used up. I just need the extra motivation sometimes. I have hair, body, skincare, as well as makeup in this project pan. I included my spreadsheet in case you want to take a peek. I have a total of 68 categories on the list.

October 200 Pan

In September, we left off at 126/200 and now, we get to see our total for October. If I finished 10 items this month, it would be a lot. I don’t even think that I have that many empties. I am not discouraged though, because I still have two months until the end of the year and I think that I will still be able to knock off a few more things. I won’t make it to 200, but over 100 is more than I ever thought that I could do. I am still so proud of myself. When I see room in my backup stash, it makes me so happy to soon have that space back to store other things besides products collecting dust. On a side note, I am in my element right now. I have written so many blog posts to try to keep ahead of the curve and I just had so many ideas. Now, I feel a bit emptier and less stuff is on my mind. But anyway, I am happy to see that my backups are not squished together anymore, but have plenty of room. I will not fill up that space though.

SKINCARE:

KODAK Digital Still Camera

130/200 I have four items here and I am counting all of them. I have a full pack of the Aveeno Baby hand and face wipes complimentary of Influenster and they were very nice. They are expensive, but if you have the money, they are the perfect morning face wipe. I finished two deluxe sized eye creams. One was my day gel and the other was my night cream. I also used up my month’s supply of Curology. I just got my 2 month supply bottle. I will be reviewing this on my blog soon, so stay tuned. Sneak peek, I LOVE it.

MAKE UP:

KODAK Digital Still Camera

132/200 I also finished up 1 lip balm and I decluttered this Nude Stix lip crayon that left white residue around the inside of my mouth. It also wore terribly and flaked away. Not to mention that the color was all wrong for my skin coloring. Not too bad on the lip front with two more out of my collection. Maybe, I can get one or two out again by the end of the year. I go through lip products and I have a good stash of them. I enjoy buying the Sephora Favorites kits to refresh my supply. I rarely buy a full size. I mostly go for mini sets, because they are the better deal and I love trying new lippies.

HAIR CARE:

KODAK Digital Still Camera

133/200 I finished up one deluxe sized can of dry shampoo and two packets of hair conditioner that I use to shave my legs with. These conditioner packets come with my dad’s hair dye and I use them. I have separate conditioner that I like to use for my hair, so these are perfect for using for shaving where I don’t care what kind it is. I am going to be buying pricier hair care that is CF, so I will not be using my expensive conditioner on my legs. If I ever use up my back stash, I will buy a cheap conditioner to use for my legs. I have one more can of dry shampoo and then, I will attempt to use up my Lush one again.

BODY CARE:

KODAK Digital Still Camera

135/200 Wow. I actually did have ten empties! That really surprises me! I am pleasantly surprised. I used up my B&BW Sweet Pea Body Spray. We used this as a bathroom freshener. Dean really stinks up the house when he goes number 2. I have been going through all of my sprays this way. I am consistently going through 1 a year. I used up one last year and now, this one for this year. I am currently working on a VS one in the Fresh and Clean scent. It is a rarity that I use up a body gel, but I used up this no name sweet pea one that Danielle gave me.

MISCELLANEOUS:

KODAK Digital Still Camera

I broke one of Dean’s bubble wands. We salvaged the fluid and poured it into two other wands. I didn’t do it on purpose. It just snapped from use. The other is a pencil that I used up. Remember those plastic pencils with the little lead refills? I still have a few of those hanging around from my middle school/high school days.

135/200 is what I wanted to have done at the very least, so I am very satisfied that this is what I got done in October. I have a masking challenge going on in November and December, so that will be boosting my empties a little bit. I also have a few odds and ends on their last legs as well. I think I might have 15 to 20 empties in the month of November. Now, that might be a generous prediction, but I believe it might come true. At the very least, I want another 10 to be a productive month. I have two skin cares on their last legs, two body lotions, and a few makeup bits and bobs. Hopefully, I can make this prediction come to life. Wish me luck!

Beauty Tag

My collab post is going out a bit late today, but I have a lot on my plate right now with Dean, school, my dad’s surgery, and some personal issues. I would have loved to post pictures with this, but I just don’t have the time and it wasn’t a big priority of mine. I still wanted to do this post, because I love the lovely Anna Marie and you need to go read her responses over on her blog. She is simply amazing and such a great friend. She recently reached out to me to find out what was wrong, because I never replied back to her email. She is a real, dear friend of mine and I would love it if you visited her and shared the at love with me. But onto the tag!

Architects Daughter Regular

I really should not be planning to buy any makeup, because I have more than enough. However, if I went to Marshalls and saw any Too Faced Sweet Peach items, I would see if I wanted any of them. I really want to try stuff from that line, but I don’t want to pay full price for it. I don’t like paying full price for makeup anymore and would rather hunt down the clearance aisles for a steal.

Architects Daughter Regular

Architects Daughter Regular

I would buy the new Hour Glass Holiday Palette (The pink/purple one) for $80. I already have the 2015 one, I believe (its the Marble one) and I love it. The colors is the Pink one are very different from what I already have. I already have one though, so I am not going to be buying this $80 palette. If I use up my current one, I would buy another one. If it ends up in the sale section of Sephora, I might grab it then. It’s how I got the 2015 one.

Architects Daughter Regular

The oldest item on my Sephora Loves List is the Too Faced Sweet Peach Creamy Peach Oil Lip Gloss in Papa Don’t Peach. I REFUSE to pay $19 for a lip gloss though.

Architects Daughter Regular

The newest item on my Sephora Loves List is the Urban Decay Naked Skin Highlighting Fluid in Skywalk. It is a lovely pale blue color and very unique. They are currently half price, but I have too many highlighters at the moment.

Architects Daughter Regular

Carolina Herra Good Girl is on my radar. I have to smell it first, but the bottle is beautiful. I’ve also wanted the DKNY Green Apple perfume FOREVER as well.

Architects Daughter Regular

I am looking forward to the Hourglass Holiday palettes, but as stated, I will not be purchasing it. I don’t really lust after new makeup. I know what I need and any wants go on my Wish List that I purge every so often of stuff no longer available or that I no longer want. It is really important to me to use what I have and to not buy more until I use some of my stuff up. I am embracing my inner minimalist and I am taking that approach to my home as well as I am purging cds and dvds. I don’t want to have so much stuff that sits, especially if I’m going to be moving soon.

Architects Daughter Regular

No, there isn’t really anything that I have been wanting at the drugstore. I do enjoy new brushes from the drugstore, but nothing really has caught my eye. When I am in the market for makeup/skincare, I usually go to Marshalls and see what I see. I don’t usually buy drugstore. Not saying that I am a snob, because I’m not. I just don’t seek it out when I could get something high end at Marshalls for the same price.

Architects Daughter Regular

The Norvina palette for sure. I am really gravitating over those colors and I haven’t seen anything but the Huda Beauty Green Gemstone palette, catch my eye. If I had to choose, I’d go with the Norvina, because I could use more of those everyday. I always say that I’m gonna wear makeup, but my dad doesn’t allow me to wear it out of the house. So, I don’t use it as much as I would like.

Architects Daughter Regular

No one but me buys me makeup on my birthday. My best friend and myself are the only ones that get me gifts on my birthday. I usually get my hair done for my birthday, but I am thinking of skipping the bleach this year and getting some new clothes and a few makeup bits. I love base products, so I’m thinking undereye concealer and banana powder. I really want Too Faced too. We shall see.

Architects Daughter Regular

I don’t know of anything that is not easily accessible in the USA, except Bioderma and I’m not as obsessed with it as I once was. I don’t hear anyone raving about it on Youtube anymore.

Architects Daughter Regular

I want to try anything from Marc Jacobs, but his line is VERY expensive. I think I might get something for my birthday next year. I am thinking a highlighter if I don’t have anything like that or a lip product that isn’t too expensive.

I would wish for a Louboutin Lipstick. I really want ones of those. The ultimate black widow weapon. lol.

5 Out: Product Reviews

It is that time again where I finally wrote about 5 more products in my collection. I am trying to do these posts twice a month, so I am writing 10 product reviews a month. I am behind though, because I have a basket of trash collected from this year that I still have yet to review. Next year when I am concentrating on 19 things instead of 200, I am sure that I will be going through a little less product. I will be working on mostly full and full sized items. Most of it will also be makeup which takes a while to use up. I can take the time next year to finish up the reviews from this year and keep up with next year’s empties. I still use up a lot of items throughout the year, but with having a set goal this year, I was motivated to use products every day and not skimp out most of the time. I am looking forward to enjoying my collection more next year instead of focusing on using up most of my mini products.

Philosophy Purity Made Simple Facial Cleanser

For a high end cleanser, this was too basic. I expected more from this brand. It didn’t even remove all of my makeup. My Aveeno cleanser did a better job than this one. This mini was overpriced at $10 USD. I do not recommend and I will not repurchase. You can do so much better at the drugstore or Marshalls. I have to say though that it is hard to find cruelty free at the drugstore. The ones that I know offhand for skin care are Alba, Elf, and Burts Bees.

Disney HSM Super Moisturizing Body Lotion

Nearing the end of its life, this body lotion started to turn on me, which is why there is a bit melted to the side. It hardened into the side of the bottle. This was a really light gel-like body lotion that was also very moisturizing. I enjoyed the light sweet scent that I couldn’t place. It didn’t really smell of anything recognizable. It didn’t smell like vanilla, just sweet. It is hard to describe. I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it, but it is very good.

Manna Kadar Sheer Glo Shimmer Lotion

I enjoyed mixing this stuff with my moisturizer. It gave a very subtle lit from within glow. I am starting to mix all of my liquid highlighters in with all of my moisturizers for this glow that I am enjoying so much on my oily skin. You don’t need this particular one. Any liquid highlighter will do. This one gives a nice, healthy pink glow to the skin! I have yellow undertones, so it wasn’t too much pink for my complexion. If I ran out of liquid highlighter and I saw this at the store, I would repurchase it. I do recommend this, but it is very subtle as a highlighter. It is great for those of us that wear minimum to no makeup for a healthy glow.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Light 2 Vanilla

I did not enjoy this under my eyes. I think it made my under eyes dry and did nothing for concealing my dark circles. Powder tends to cling to the concealer making it look like you have dry patches of skin. I used this all over my face as a foundation. It was okay as a foundation, but nothing special. I do not recommend it and I will not be repurchasing anything from Nars as they are no longer cruelty free.

Boscia Charcoal Pore Pudding

This did not minimize the appearance of my pores, but it did purify my skin and helped pull out acne. I would not purchase, because I have a few clay masks already that do the same thing. I would purchase from the brand again, but this mask is nothing special. i think I would try their peel off mask, because I have a ton of black heads and I think that type of mask would be more effective for my skin concerns. On the plus side, this mask was very easy to remove with a warm wash cloth.

August 200 Pan

I am super duper late with this posting and my September 200 Pan post will be posting up pretty soon after this one. I just have been super busy with life that I have let certain posts slip through the cracks. I am trying to be better about it, but no promises. I’m trying to put together some review posts. Once again, my basket to review is filling up and I’d like to get on that before it gets too crazy. I’m pretty disappointed in what I was able to use up in August, but looking at my September pile, I don’t feel guilty about letting August get away from me. I was able to do so much in September. Part of my August, I was cleaning, organizing, and donating. In September, I continued to do this, but also school started up again with new classes, my interview happened, and I went through my makeup collection.

MISCELLANEOUS:

IMG_20180902_100431

Yup, my pictures are still crappy from my phone. I am hoping to get a new camera soon in October, because I miss taking pictures of my son.

MAKEUP:

IMG_20180902_100055

I got rid of two samples that were too dark and one that was bad after I opened it. It feels good to get rid of the clutter.

SKINCARE:

IMG_20180902_100142

We are finally getting into some empties that I can add to my yearly total. In July, we left off on 96/200 and now, we are up to 98/200 in this category. I am not counting the BareMinerals samples, but I am counting the Sunday Riley UFO oil and the Supergoop! Sunscreen Serum. I am glad to have both out of my collection. I think I will buy the Juno oil next by Sunday Riley. That 0.5 oz bottle lasted over 3 months of constant use. Before that, I used it for a year with a couple times of week usage. I think a brand new bottle would last around 5-6 months of constant every night use. So, the $40 price tag isn’t too hard for me. For 4 months, that’s $10 a month for a really great oil. The sunscreen serum was nice and I would consider repurchasing as it is better than regular sunscreen. There was no white cast and makeup/moisturizer went great on top of it.

Hair Care:

IMG_20180902_100234

Now, we are at 99/200 with the Wella Color Charm Toner. I redid my gray hair in September, but I toned it on the last few days of August to get out any yellow tones for a truer gray. It’s a bright natural gray. It shifts from grey to purple to brown like chrome. Once my gray fades out and I’m back with bleached blonde hair, I want to do a more blue gray like my Hilary Duff came back after having her son, which now she is pregnant with a girl, super excited! Anyway, I would use this Wella Toner again, except since I’m going less gray I would choose a different tone of toner. I am thinking the T10 for a pale blonde instead of ash. The sample conditioner I use to shave my legs with.

Body Care:

IMG_20180902_100332

And here we are 100/200 with this body care item that I used on Dean to keep his skin moisturized. This Target Up & Up baby ointment is the equivalent to Vaseline. I will not be repurchasing. It was a chore waiting for this to dry on him and he has slippery skin when trying to get him into clothes after a bath. I don’t even think it took away his dry patches on his arms and legs. It wasn’t worth the effort.

There you have it for August! I hit the halfway mark two months after the halfway mark of the year. I am looking forward to showing you all my September results which are very impressive. I am looking to keep the same momentum into October, but the one reason why September was so good is that I decluttered stuff from my makeup collection. Still, I feel proud of myself and I cannot wait to show you guys what I am talking about. I think by then, I will have a good camera. I think I’m getting it around the time that this post is going up. I’ll keep you updated.

Project 200 Pan: July Update

To recap June, I have completed 35.5% of the project and that is 71/200 items. I needed a really good catch up month and I think this past July was the month for it. I was able to use up quite a lot of products, so I should be having at least a couple of review posts up in September from July. Right now as I am writing this, I am on my last week of the semester and I am finishing up two powerpoint presentations. I hate writing presentations. I am not good at them. I would much rather write a paper than do a presentation. I am not artistic and I just don’t have a flare for that sort of thing. Anyway, that’s completely off the topic. Let’s see what I was able to use up/declutter in the month of July that counts towards my 200 pan goal.

13 items to add to the project. I hit pan on the liquid lipstick from bareMinerals. I am currently trying to use the whole thing up now. At this point, I had to remove the stopper, which I count as “panning” lipsticks/lip glosses. The Mark lipgloss has gone bad as I was trying to use it up. Every time I use it too much, it dried out my lips and caused cracked lips with some bleeding. I used up one full sized eye liner and three deluxe sized samples. The Urban Decay dried out before I could use the whole thing. I depotted two color correctors and three eye shadows. I would never use the green or the orange correctors. The black, dark purple, and dark blue eye shadows are ones that I never wold have touched with my hooded eyes. I decluttered the purple glitter, because who am I kidding?! I am also decluttering the Sally Hansen leg makeup, because it looks orange and rubs off of my skin. 84/200

IMG_4206

Another 5 rounded up! I finished a full sized toner, eye serum, and eye cream. I finished up two deluxe sizes of eye cream and baby wash. I would repurchase the toner, but I can go without everything else seen here. 89/200

IMG_4207

7 products to add to my list. I didn’t see this bubble bath, so I didn’t repurchase. I would repurchase it though. I bought the Equate knock off of the little Aveeno baby tubs, but I think I prefer the $3 tubs. I do not think that they are created equal. The deodorant was really nice and I would repurchase it again at Marshalls. The Degree spray I would not repurchase. Another sunscreen. Might have a few more sunscreen empties by the end of summer and next year we will need to buy all new ones! 96/200

IMG_4077

I wanted to show you all Dean’s smile, because I love it! ❤ 96/200 is a really great way to catch up. I am 48% done with this challenge. I am so close to being half way down that I am smiling ear to ear. I really want to make it and have really put in the effort in July. I laxed in August, which you will see. So, I need to really step it up in September to make up for it by using up more of my stuff. I need to finish at least 10.4% of the challenge every month in order to complete it by the end of the year. So that would be like 20 products a month. I know that I won’t make it for August, but I will try to have an epic September like this month was. At this point, I don’t think that I will make it, but I am still going to have fun trying.

With Love,

Selena
